One Man’s Story is written by Carolyn Edwards, partner of ‘Bongo’ Eddie Folk and founder of Liverpool-based recovery through creative arts charity Genie In The Gutter. The inspiration for the production was borne out of Carolyn’s grief following Eddie’s death, as well as her desire to celebrate the achievements of the charity’s ten years in operation.
Jen Heyes is serving as the production’s director. The award-winning director and producer’s previous works include the critically-acclaimed west end production Epstein: The Man Who Made The Beatles, Tony Teardrop and Truth to Power Café.
This is a vibrant and innovative production, telling the story of Eddie’s life through prose, music, rhythm and dance.
In addition to theatre veterans and emerging artists, some of Genie In The Gutter’s service users are involved in the production, as actors, set designers and stagehands. Both in terms of its narrative and its production, One Man’s Story aims to demonstrate that those who are marginalised by society can still achieve their artistic potential and build a successful future for themselves.
